Cowboy-Ninja-Pirate-Knight MemeCollapse )

EDIT: My husband just took this test. He came out a COWBOY. Half my Honor, twice my Adventure, 94% higher than me in Cowboiosity, less than half my Knightlyness, barely ANY Ninjinuity. What on earth are two such different people doing together?

...Of course, I guess you could say the same for Draco and Harry. Best not to wonder, I suppose-- just accept. ;)

Excuse me, but I have to squee now. [Jun. 2nd, 2005|05:53 pm]

[music |"P.S. I Love You", The Beatles]

My husband just brought me home the only two Beatles albums that I was still missing. For no reason whatsoever. I mean, it's not my birthday, or our anniversary, or anything. It's not even payday.

He just wanted me to have ALL the Beatles. In case I needed them, for TLAWR. *hugs Please Please Me and Past Masters to her chest, beaming*

My husband is teh best, evah.

If any of you happen to have an MP3 of "High Hopes" from Pulse by Pink Floyd (or from any other album it happens to appear on, in a pinch), I will pay in my life's blood for a copy of it. My CD seems to have a scratch, and I can't rip it.

*whimpers in authorial frustration* I was using it for inspiration for one of my one-shots and now I can't listen to it. WAH.

More Pimping! Extremely Urgent! (And More Importantly, Funny As Hell) [May. 20th, 2005|09:37 am]
[mood |bouncybouncy]

Balian: I will go to discuss terms with Saladin.
Saladin: You realize you're in deep shit, son?
Balian: Try to take Jerusalem and it will be the end of you.

fourth_rose: Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.

Saladin: I will let all the Christians leave the city unharmed if you surrender.

cutecoati: Like hell he would send them away! Those are tax-paying citizens!

Balian: Okay.

cloudlessnights: Couldn't they have agreed on that before the shit hit the fan?
fourth_rose: This is no time for earth logic, little one.
cloudlessnights: Right.

* * *

*snickers wildly*

Er. Yes. If you're wondering where that came from, it's from history_spork, a new joint venture by fourth_rose and cutecoati. (Well, technically, it's from one of their posts about Kingdom of Heaven that inspired them to create history_spork, which can be found here and here. Pester me not with petty details; I have a spork, and I'm not afraid to use it.)

The purpose of this new venture? Think of a cross between MST3K and A Brief Brief History of Time, written by historians about historical movies. With overtones of The Very Secret Diaries thrown in.

history_spork. Sporking Hollywood's butchering of history at a LiveJournal near you.

And they're doing Gladiator next, folks. *tempts* Friend it. You know you want to.

Random Observation [May. 7th, 2005|04:42 pm]
[mood |naughtynaughty]

I hereby apologize to anyone on my flist who doesn't share my OTP. ;)

I was staying at my friend Taz's house this past week, and we watched the third HP movie a lot. I mean, a LOT. As in, I wished we could put it on automatic repeat so it wouldn't keep going back to the stupid shrunken head menu and make one of us come running back from wherever else we were in the flat and push the damn button so we could hear it again.

Go ye forth, those who own this movie. Go to the "Buckbeak" scene. Fast forward until Hermione, speaking about the Monster Book of Monsters, says loyally that she thinks they're funny...

Draco: ...Wait until my father hears that Dumbledore's got this oaf teaching classes.
Harry: Shut up, Malfoy.

Now then. Draco and his cronies make gleeful noises, spotting a bit of fun to be had here, and Draco hands off his bookbag and moves forward to stand in front of Harry.

And by god, he GIVES HIM THE ONCE-OVER while he does it. I'm not kidding. Go look. If I'd gotten that treatment during my clubbing days back in college, I'd have expected an invitation for bed and breakfast before the hour was up. Smirk, saunter, lazily look down, lazily look up, smirk again at Harry from about a bloody FOOT away.

That boy has no shame. *shakes head at Draco in amusement*

Absolutely everybody needs to go read balfrog's story "The Symmetry of Absence" (Snape/Draco/Harry). So very amazing. So very in character. Oddly but coolly reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany's, in bits. You'll know where. Plus I got disgustingly sniffly.

*face-cracking yawn*

Draco, I hate you.

...Not that anyone else is allowed to say this in my hearing, of course.

The Brat-Prince of Slytherin kept me up until 5:30 AM last night. And then I dreamed about him non-stop, until the yapping dog next door dragged me back into the world of the living, at about 11:30.

When I woke up, I was trying to type on my coverlet.

Ah, TLAWR, how I've missed you... my days of No Goddamned Sleep Worth Mentioning have returned at last...

I'm too old for this. Someone, for the love of little green snake-embroidered socks, buy me stock in Jolt.

We return you to your regularly scheduled LJ. Mostly because the little blond git is cracking the whip at my heels and wants out of the Summer from Hell. Thank you, and good afternoon. *sleepy grin*

[mood |hopefulhopeful]
[music |"Getting Better", the Beatles]

*gasp*

Ow. *holds head* Um. Hi, everyone...!

I've been absent for several months, I know. I sincerely apologize. Truly. Real life broadband cascading disaster dragged me away from TLAWR on a much less pleasant long and winding road of my own. Let me not get into it; about the only thing that did not attempt to crash and burn was my marriage.

But on the bright side... I didn't die, my friend didn't die, my cat didn't die, my computer did die but I now have a new one (*grovels at the feet of her friends Taz and Enki in utter gratitude*), and while I am no longer involved in the online RPG and no longer have a job (see above-referenced bout of me-almost-dead and computer-very-dead for all you need to know about the reasons thereof; people, employers or otherwise, tend not to like it when you don't show up for two months straight) ...that does mean that I have all the time in the world to write, undistracted. Joy!

Thus, after a regrettably prolonged hiatus, TLAWR is now in progress again. I assure you, it had not at any point been set aside for good. My husband has even been keeping me in Draco-Mode for the duration, so that I'd have no problems in coming back to it when my life settled-- he said he'd go mad if he didn't find out what happened. *affectionate and grateful kiss for her hubby*

Anyway. I'm off to review this two-foot pile of notes, listen to my Beatles soundtrack, and get back to work! *waves red-inked, battered stack of paper cheerfully* I'll do my damnedest to get the next chapter out there as soon as possible, but please be patient with me-- it's been a while, and it may take me a little while to get back up to speed!

Hope everyone has been well in my absence; I've missed you all!

Edit: *grinning* Yeah. You have Writing Face.
Lucinda: *eyebrows at hairline* "Writing Face"?
*Edit puts on an eeriely blank expression-- his face in calm repose, his eyes unfocused and staring thoughtfully a distant point, with a tiny little crinkle between his eyebrows that somehow seems to indicate bemused concentration*
Edit: *shakes it off and grins again* ...Writing Face.

The Star Card
You are the Star card.

The Star is the light of hope. Shining in the night, sending light into darkness, the stars provide direction to sailors and are a field on which to dream. Humanity used to look up at the sky and desire to be there, to find out what it all meant, and now we have been a distance into space and have elementary ideas of the makeup of all the different stars. This kind of achievement adds further fuel to our hopes. The eternal, slow-moving stars that will be long shining past the end of our own existence provide hope of immortality, and the vast space they suggest and the very mystery they hold provide us with excitement and knowledge yet to be discovered.

Ah, the Beatles... [Aug. 7th, 2004|09:17 am]
[mood |busybusy]
[music |"Helter Skelter", the Beatles]

The nice thing about having a soundtrack for TLAWR (people have been calling it that on LJ when they've been reccing/discussing it, apparently-- makes sense, nobody will confuse it with LUW that way!) is that when I have to do boring stuff like clean house, I can play it in the background and plot stuff. Not as good as being able to write all weekend, but better than nothing.

I'd say this was disgustingly domestic, but given that I'm wearing a Slytherin scarf over my cleaning duds... and arguing with myself OUT LOUD, half of the time in a familiar and very British drawl... it sort of wrecks that fifties' "I have no life beyond the care of my household" image. Also any impression of my being sane, but hey. *grins and dives back into preparing her house to be seen by an inspection crew on Monday*

AMUSING NOTE: I've been channeling Draco for so long now that I can no longer say certain words in my normal voice even when I am talking as myself. "Sorry", for instance, comes out as the drawl, automatically.

Oh, damnit! [Aug. 1st, 2004|10:00 pm]
[mood |distresseddistressed]
[music |"I'm A Loser", the Beatles]

Enigma_X caught me on a canon point, apparently. *runs for her copy of OotP* I've got the wrong age for Lucius! I had to GUESS, I couldn't find any reference to his age in the books when I was writing this chapter... I must have forgotten ever seeing it after I read it in OotP. *curses mightily*

Damn, I wish Enigma_X read my LJ, I could talk about this other thing... Yes, the Aurors have said they would arrest him, and Draco is only a minor. I've got two rebuttals, here. ;) One: for particularly heinous crimes, sometimes a minor is tried as an adult-- particularly when they are as close to legal adulthood as Draco. Some people might feel that this situation qualified, and it might not go so well for him if the Wizengamot were asked to rule on that... but that's not been put to the test yet, fortunately for our boy!

But more importantly, the only people who have actually SAID "Azkaban" are Moody and Andromeda-- Moody AT Draco... and Andromeda either to Draco or in front of Draco. And well... Andromeda has an ulterior motive in making Draco think that they'd chuck him into the worst possible place if he doesn't cooperate, given that she doesn't want to see him arrested at all. *whistles innocently* I feel it necessary to repeat Draco's quite accurate assessment of her: She's so smart it's scary. ;)

And come on. MOODY? Like he wouldn't call for sending Draco to Azkaban anyway. *grin*

...I'll have to make sure that once this is all over, Aunt Andromeda confesses to Draco that they really couldn't have taken him to Azkaban. He'll be SO hacked off. *giggles helplessly*

--Aha! Edit found it for me! *reads furiously* Oh! No, that's all right! I'll just fix the one reference I have to how old Lucius was (Draco's) when he inherited and all will be well! In fact, that actually makes Draco being the second-born child more probable, instead of less. Whew. *falls backwards into chair*

SE!Draco's LJ is up and running. Got Yahoo!Email and Yahoo!Messenger for him. Profile and icons and everything, done. Now I just need to wait for the actual RPG to start...

*falls back into chair* I'm tired!

Now I must be good and go back to LWR!Draco and Chapter Four. Hopefully I can keep him out of the kind of trouble SE!Draco's likely to wind up in... ;)

Ahem. I shall attempt to retain some dignity here.

--NAAAAH! *runs around cheering* I got in! I got the part!

Er... attention, all. :) I've got some good news, and I also have pimpage. I've just been accepted to a LJ Harry Potter RPG called:

Shadow's Edge is a post-Hogwarts, post-War RPG that chronicles the rebuilding of the Wizarding World, six months after the deaths of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Click on the pic and check it out!

There's lots of room for plotting between characters, some great people have joined up and their ideas are going to make things *cough* very, very interesting. ;) starflowers, who got me interested in it, is playing Theodore Nott. She's going to be marvelous-- she'd be marvelous at anyone in the HP universe, as anyone who's ever read her stories could tell you. If you HAVEN'T read her stories, go do so! Now now now! She's one of the reasons I started LWR in the first place, I adore her fics and was always unhappy when they got to the end. Wanted MORE. I wound up having to write more myself. :)

I would so love to have my friends play, particularly my newest ones. *shills madly* I'd get to know you better in an environment that reflects what brought us into contact in the first place! Come on, balfrog... you know you want to... :) The mods have been highly recommended to me, they're apparently wonderful and creative people, and the situation sounds fascinating. Anyone out there up to the challenge of playing Severus Snape? *eyes disc_sophist sidelong* Can't have a Draco without a Snape, can we...? He's already having to do without a Harry. Take pity on the boy.

And if you happen to like LWR and my interpretation of Draco at all, I guess I can offer a tiny bit of additional incentive, because, well--

--I'm SE's Draco Malfoy. Apparently they liked my application, the one I've been wittering about for days. *preens, then faints*

I've got my application for Shadow's Edge finished.

It's CRAP. I just know it is.

But I can't seem to make it NOT crap. This is the best I can do.

*sigh*

And starflowers isn't around for me to show it to. *whimper* How can I send this in without someone who's DONE this before to reassure me it's not as much crap as I think it is?

*paces some more*

Chapter Three has been submitted to FictionAlley.

I think I'm going to throw up. AGAIN with the shrieking and hiding, and now we've added nausea. *eyes her shaking hands in dismay* This does not, in fact, get any easier. I am beginning to suspect it never will.

...Not that I'm going to STOP or anything. *crooked grin*

Urk! [Jul. 23rd, 2004|01:05 am]
[mood |sleepysleepy]
[music |"Good Night", the Beatles]

The good: I've finished formatting Chapter Three; all I need to do tomorrow afternoon is write up the author notes and the teaser for Chapter Four, get Edit to do one final check of the HTML file, and it's ready for submission. Also, FA will be moving to their new ISP and server tomorrow and Saturday; no more "server busy" messages!

The bad: ...Until FA is finished with the move, they will not be uploading any new fics. Argh! My timing sucks! And here I stayed up late to finish Chapter Three in spite of the fact that I work tomorrow... I have to leave the house in six hours.

Oh well. Happy birthday anyway, FictionAlley. :)

*blink*
*stare*
*abrupt and virulent cursing in three languages*

...I just found a HUGE continuity error between Chapter Three and Chapter Four. Bad SlashPeeps. Bad! None of you caught it, not even Edit! For shame!

..S'allright. :) I didn't catch it until I was formatting Chapter Three, and I wrote the damn thing.

*sigh* Excuse me. I think I have a late night ahead of me. *wanders off to pace and smoke and try to sort things out* BUGGER.

EDIT, 9:28 PM: Disaster averted. Edit and I have sorted the plot tangle out-- I'll need to add two small bits to Chapter Four, a slightly expanded hint in Chapter Six, and it'll all fall into place. Chapter Three can remain as it is. *flops back into chair with a sigh of relief* Lordy. My head hurts.

All right, back to formatting...!

*...mostly in order to jump up from the computer and dance around in her living room, after reading Pottersister666's review for Chapter Two*

WOOT! *Lucy boogies to the INXS Edit is playing, head tipped back, arms flung wide as if to embrace the world*
*Edit falls over on the couch and laughs his ass off*

...I'm such a geek. *grin*

*dives back into formatting Chapter Three* If all goes well, submitting Chapter Three to FA tomorrow, folks... Also must remember to resubmit Chapter Two so that the silver "dream font" is darker and more readable... And also the Prologue and Chapter One so that the Draco/Malfoy thing is less jarring... *races off again, muttering cheerfully*
